This is the very first of the 21 mission churches, the mother of the California missions, and is the southern tip of the mission churches. Services are still held in this church, and they have continued since the church was constructed in 1769. It is very impressive and very serene. The bells look very majestic where they are located, and the history of the place speaks of the difficulties that the earliest missionaries had to go through in order to bring Christ to this part of the world. I was glad to actually see Fray Junifero Serra's room, and the church reminded me of old churches in Ilocos Sur (Philippines).
