... and the story is about human frailty, and the mysery that envelopes us in time, making us feel that we are brought where we are by a greater force than ourselves, as we watch in awe at the marvelous events that we find ourselves into.
I'd list MY EYES ADORED YOU, FALLEN ANGEL, and of course CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF OF YOU in my top three of the musicals renditions, but there is no boring song throughout the whole play, thanks to Frank Valli and the Four Seasons. What makes it a Tony material is the effective, fast-paced story telling technique that intersperses monumental events and songs with the very mundane and conversational introspections of the characters. The lighting is very effective, and in certain parts, even spectacular. I am also impressed how the production came up with that ethereal scene that almost looked hazy as it tied with the emotionally controlled rendition of Fallen Angel. They ended the show with a sense of the transcendent, how life brought them together, and in the appropriate time, they had to go their own way, just like any other human story. I'm impressed. | sounds interesting.... the last musical I saw was Wicked. I know it's been playing in Chicago for some time now, but have you seen that yet? If not, that's something I really recommend! |
 | don't you like happy endings? just don't read the book. now, that will really dampen it....unless you like the gloom and doom. |
 | jersey boys on the other hand did not seek resolution... the thesis in the end is: "that's just how it has been..." it's reality in your face. of course, it's not fair to compare the two. |
